A New Year, Means No More Excuses!

Now 2018 is finally underway, we all have a wonderful opportunity to start afresh and to make an impact on the world. The truth is, of course, we have these opportunities every day, but somehow the new year feels the right time to start afresh. To start doing the things we really want to do and to start taking action on those things that have been “want to’s” and “one day I will…” for far too long.

If you are serious about making some positive changes in your life, then this is the week to get started. Start with a burst of activity, get whatever it is you want to achieve started. The reason so many people fail to achieve these things is because December gave them an opportunity to procrastinate and to delay. It’s easy to say “I will start in the new year”, and use December as an excuse for not doing anything about it. We’ve all heard the excuses “I can’t diet in December because of the holidays” or “quitting smoking in December is impossible because of all the parties I have to go to”. Well now you no longer have those excuses. Now you have to start.

One area I identified as something I want to change this year is to reduce my sugar intake. I have a sweet tooth and do find it difficult to resist cake, chocolate and adding copious amounts of sugar in my tea and coffee. This week, I begin reducing the amount of sugar I take. No more cake, (except for Fridays — that’s my reward night) putting one sugar in my tea and coffee instead of three and not eating desserts after dinner. For a sugar addict such as myself this will not be easy, but I know self-discipline is a friend and will help me to achieve this goal. But this reduction starts now. Not next week, or next month. It starts now.

If your goal is to learn a new skill, then this week is when you start. Not next week. You can start by doing some research on the internet to find out where local clubs are located, you could order the books you will need to learn the new skill or you could enrol in the right online course. The thing is, this week you must do at least one thing to move you forward on whatever it is you want to achieve.

So, whatever you plan to achieve this year, make sure you do at least one thing this week to get started. The first week of January, in any year, means you have no more excuses. If you are serious about achieving change, success, a healthier lifestyle or whatever, now is the time to start.

Good luck and I wish you all a very happy and successful 2018.
